Wight Vodka and the Royal Lymington Challenge Cup

Lymington, England

The Wight Vodka regatta lifestyle should always be this satisfying!

This past weekend saw the inaugural Royal Lymington Challenge Cup successfully launch with intensive racing and an impressive social scene, enhanced by steady breezes, beautiful sunshine and fabulous Wight Vodka cocktails.

Kevin Podger, Secretary of the Royal Lymington Yacht Club could not have been more pleased with the outcome. “This first Royal Lymington Challenge Cup began on a great note. The feedback from the competitors was extremely positive; from the highly spirited racing through to the Wight Vodka cocktail reception and final prize giving on Saturday afternoon. Everything came together perfectly and the support from the Wight Vodka team was very well appreciated!”

Teams from the Royal Yacht Squadron, the Royal Lymington Yacht Club, the Royal Southampton Yacht Club, Poole Yacht Club, the Petit Bateau, the Royal Temple Yacht Club, the Parkstone Yacht Club and the RNSA took part in three days of intensive racing. In the end, the Royal Yacht Squadron took first place overall (and hence, received the exclusive personalised Wight Vodka Regatta baseball caps), with just two points separating them from the Royal Lymington YC team who came in second. Congratulations to the Royal Yacht Squadron on their combined team win!

The overall individual winner of the event was Chris and Hanna Neve’s First 34.7, No Doubt. Chris and his team thoroughly enjoyed themselves, saying “The Royal Lymington put on a great three days of racing and social events. I’m very proud of my crew, as they worked hard to take overall individual winner. Of course we had some fun as well, taking one of the Wight Vodka flags ‘ransom’ and proudly flying it as our own battle flag upon returning to port!”

About The Royal Lymington Yacht Club

Located at the western end of the Solent, the Royal Lymington Yacht Club began its life in 1922 as the Lymington River Sailing Club. It quickly gained strength and in 1924 found a home in a disused boathouse beside the Lymington River, where it commands an outstanding view down the river across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. The membership has grown to around 2,800 today. For more information on the Royal Lymington Yacht Club, visit Royal Lymington Yacht Club
