Yarmouth Pier Auction Features Wight Vodka

Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, England

The Yarmouth Harbour Commissioners raised £15,260 for the Yarmouth Pier Appeal at an Auction held at The Towers in Yarmouth on Saturday, 29th September, and one of the prized auction lots included Wight Vodka.

Mr. Chris Lisher, Chief Executive and Harbour Master of Yarmouth Harbour said, “We are delighted with the support that we have had for the Yarmouth Pier Appeal, not only from the people of Yarmouth and the Island but visitors from the mainland and especially from harbour users. The auction lots were donated by Island and mainland individuals and companies to help raise money for the restoration of the pier which will soon become unsafe as gribble worms are eating away the pier’s main supports. It is hoped that work will begin in January 2008 to ensure that the Grade II listed structure is restored and saved for future generations to enjoy. I would like to thank the team at 50° North for donating the Wight Vodka gift, which was one of the highlights of the evening.”

Nearly 140 guests attended the auction, which was carried out by Nick Bonham and bid for 70 lots from signed books from Alan Titchmarsh, Patron of the Pier Appeal, a diamond pendant from Nautical Gold and a beautiful painting of Yarmouth Pier at Sunset donated by Susie Caulcutt, which raised £1,000.

Ritu Manocha, Director at 50° North commented, “The Yarmouth Pier continues to be vitally important to Yarmouth Harbour’s heritage. In the 125 years that the Pier has withstood the elements, it has a great history of receiving ships from Lymington to Poole carrying passengers and goods to the Island. We are proud to offer Wight Vodka as one of the many fabulous auction lots, and look forward to supporting the continued fundraising appeal until the Pier can be saved.”
